Located at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, Love & Squalor is a literary magazine run by, and centering, students—the heartbeat of our publication lies in discovery and experimentation. With each edition, we platform work that feels new, fresh, and urgent. Our responsibility as editors and curators brings us to these questions: What does it mean to have a duty of care to an artistic community? What even is literature? Who creates our expectations? 

Started in 2017 as a literary magazine for “armchair artists,” with a focus on fringe and hybrid work, we accept any genre and any medium. We print soft-cover magazines each semester, and also upload work to our website.
